Social Activism: Creating a New Reality (YWP Session January 2017)

On January 25th, 2017, the 16th Young Women Parliament gathered in Shazzar high-school in Bat Yam, under the topic “Social Activism: Creating a New Reality”. The gathering included a talk by Dr. Johnny Mack, who talked about the legacy of Martin Luther King: “struggling for equality and human rights with non-violent means”.
After the talk, Jewish, Druze and Arab teen-aged girls split into mixed groups, and discussed social activism and methods to create an equal and beneficial society for women and girls. The girls came from various places – Beit Jan, Tira, Jassar-A-Zarka, Or Akiva, Hertzeliya, Kfar Sava and Bat Yam. At the end, a representative from each group presented their product.
The event was organized by Anat Livnat, an adviser on women status for the mayor of Bat Yam, and by SHIN, with collaboration from the US embassy.
