Conference on “Racism against Youth – Enforcement, Law and Education” Held in the Knesset (March 2017)

Marking the International Day of Struggle Against Racism (March 21st, 2017) , a conference was held, in the Knesset, on “Racism against Youth – Enforcement, Law and Education”. The conference was initiated by the “Lobby Against Racism” headed by Aida Touma-Suleiman (the Joint List party) and Michal Biran (the Zionist Union party), the “Coalition Against Racism in Israel” and “the Lobby for the Promotion of Coexistence between Arabs and Jews”, chaired by knesset member Yousef Jabareen (the Joint List party). Girls from the “Young Women Parliament” group in the city of Tira, guided by Ohud Shbita, participated in the conference.

Rasha Da’as, One of the girls, presented the work done as part of the “Young Women Parliament” activity. She talked about activism, their participation in national conferences held periodically with other Jewish and Arab “Young Women Parliament” groups. A national conference of the “Young Women Parliament” is being planned for next month in Tira, it is organized by the girls and the topic will be “The Struggle for Human Rights and Against Racism”.
The girls’ exposure to regional and national community activities, through their involvement in “Young Women parliament” groups, is important for the development of their leadership ability and criticism. Their participation in this conference reflects their willingness, determination and commitment to promoting gender and social issues.
