The title of the sixth event of the Young Women’s Parliament was women and sexuality – how does the use of sex influence girls’ status? It took place in January 2012 in Givatayim. Reuven Ben Shachar, the mayor, Vivi Wolfson, the vice mayor, and Ora Shmuel, the mayor’s advisor on women’s issues, hosted the event. Iris Avraham, the vice mayor and head of women’s council, also attended the event. It was organized by Mimi Simbalista, the coordinator of youth involvement and volunteering. About 150 girls from Givatayim, Bat Yam, Kfar Saba, regional council of Lev Hasharon and Kfar Kara, participated in the event.
In the workshops the girls discussed their personal positions with regard to sexuality. The plenary panel was convened by Michal Yamin, head of the youth and community department and its participants were: Dana Spector (journalist), Sharon Orshalimi (head of a feminist organization), Esther Hertzog (Women Parliament’s coordinator) and Nitzan Fridman (head of the pupils’ school council).
